10. "Learning When to Speak Up and Step Back as a Leader"

This situation began when new team members were allocated to the team. I have been working on the tool for over two years now and have a good understanding of the client-side project cycle, even though it is slightly dynamic and keeps evolving.

When the new team members joined, one of them happened to be my ex-reporting manager. I was tasked with distributing projects among the team members. As a considerate team player, I took on multiple projects myself since the new members were unfamiliar with the process, even though they had experience in their respective fields like network administration, Scrum, SAP finance, etc. I allocated fewer projects to them to allow them to adapt.

Apart from this, I was already serving as a key pillar for a major cross-platform project in the company as a Scrum Master. However, I was overextending myself by driving project sub-items, establishing baselines at the company level, and taking on additional roles within the project team. Initially, I faced challenges with the team, but over time, things settled down. The team began to respect me for my efforts in supporting them, often going beyond my responsibilities to help them and maintaining good relations with other teams.

Regarding the internal team, my current reporting manager suggested that I handle fewer projects to oversee them more effectively. I gradually started distributing more projects to the team while focusing on providing thorough knowledge transfers (KTs) and support. However, out of the three team members, only one actively attended the KTs and made an effort, while the other two often failed to participate due to various reasons.

Despite my efforts, including sharing detailed guidelines to ensure they didn’t face the same challenges I did while learning the process, two team members consistently displayed less interest and delayed communication. While one team member eventually started tracking projects, their contributions lacked acknowledgment or appreciation, while the other continued to show minimal involvement.

This lack of engagement led to projects experiencing turbulence and missed deadlines. The issue was compounded because team members weren’t even aware of the deadlines they missed. My manager informed me about the team's poor performance, indirectly holding me responsible for it. I tried explaining the situation to him, emphasizing the delays and lack of interest from certain team members. In response, he shared screenshots of conversations showing one team member attending meetings consistently. However, I could have shared the group meeting chats, but I chose not to. Instead, I suggested providing more information about the tool and the process.

Over the past two weeks, I’ve been actively communicating in group and private chats, which has somewhat improved engagement. However, the underlying issues persist. While I refrained from directly confronting the team members, I did escalate my concerns to my manager.

Recently, two delivery managers were appointed to the team, which gives me hope for improvement. However, based on initial discussions, I sense they may have a restrictive mindset. Despite this, I remain optimistic about the team’s growth and the projects’ success.

In summary, I have tried my best to address the problems, unite the team, and ensure project success. It’s essential to know when to stop overextending yourself and speak up for your well-being. I hope this serves as a learning for others to strike a balance and make their professional journey smoother.

How to Fight Overthinking or Negative Thoughts?

How to Combat Overthinking or Negative Thoughts?

1. Don’t Fight Your Thoughts
Trying to suppress or control negative thoughts often backfires, making them stronger. Instead, allow them to flow naturally. As your mind begins to settle, gently introduce positive or neutral thoughts. Initially, your mind might resist and spiral back into negativity, but persist in reinforcing positive or calming thoughts. Over time, this practice becomes easier.

2. Counting and Affirmations
Engage your mind with structured activities like counting while repeating affirmations, mantras, or shlokas. For example, count from 1 to 100 and then back from 100 to 1. When your mind drifts, gently bring it back to counting, even if it means starting over. This consistent redirection can tire out the mind's overthinking tendencies, leading to a calmer state with regular practice.

3. Change Your Environment
A change of scenery can help reset your mind. Tell yourself that you will find peace or happiness in the new place. Whether it’s a walk outdoors or a quiet corner of your home, associating a new environment with positive feelings can shift your mindset.

4. Overload with Positive Input
Flood your mind with uplifting or inspiring content. Watch motivational videos, listen to devotional songs, or engage with any content that resonates positively with you. Before starting, mentally prepare yourself by affirming that you will feel better during and after the activity. This approach can help distract your mind from negativity and redirect its focus.

5. Focus and Let Go
Reflect on what truly matters in your life. Identify the things you want to learn, improve upon, or cherish, and consciously let go of anything that hinders your growth. Over time, this deliberate focus helps declutter your mind and bring clarity.

By practicing these techniques regularly, you can gradually reduce the hold of overthinking and negativity on your life. Remember, patience and persistence are key. Wishing you peace, happiness, and a fulfilling journey ahead!

Navigating Misunderstandings and Miscommunication

Navigating Misunderstandings and Miscommunication

Everyone experiences their own unique journey, shaped by their beliefs, doubts, mindset, and thinking. Miscommunication and misunderstandings are inevitable in daily life. However, what truly matters is how we respond to these moments.

1. Acknowledge Mistakes with Maturity
If anger, frustration, or an outburst occurs, it’s important to reflect, acknowledge the mistake, and address it once emotions have settled. Apologizing to loved ones when necessary is a sign of strength, not weakness. There is no shame in admitting fault or seeking reconciliation.

2. The Power of Communication
Open and honest discussions, especially after emotions subside, can resolve most conflicts. Communication fosters better understanding and brings clarity to situations. While it may feel challenging initially, with practice, it becomes easier to approach discussions calmly and constructively.

3. Avoid Judging Too Quickly
It’s unfair to judge others without understanding their perspective. Mature conversations are crucial for bridging gaps and gaining insight into someone’s actions or thoughts.

4. Practice and Patience
Developing these habits takes time and effort. While it may never be effortless, consistent practice can make navigating misunderstandings significantly easier over time.

By embracing these approaches, we can strengthen relationships and create a more harmonious connection with those around us.

Securing Employment After Studying Abroad: Strategies for Success

  • Navigating the Challenges of Studying Abroad
  • Key Considerations Before Moving Abroad for Education
  • Securing Employment After Studying Abroad: Strategies for Success
  • Preparing for Life and Work After Studying Abroad
  • Factors to Consider When Pursuing Education Abroad
  • - There are a few factors to consider before moving abroad: financial aspects and your performance in courses will be beneficial. While the technology, luxury, and lifestyle may be better there, it can also be quite challenging to navigate everything, so you need to be prepared in all areas.

    - After completing your studies, securing a job can be difficult, but this largely depends on your performance and the connections you've made with professors and others. Building a good rapport with your professors can be advantageous, as they may collaborate with companies. A technical job is generally preferable, but your circumstances may require you to pursue basic non-technical jobs for financial support.

    - Employers typically look for experience, and if you excel in specific technologies or skills that a company needs, you'll have an easier time securing a job. Otherwise, you may face challenges with CV updates, interviews, and other processes. Therefore, a practical approach is to connect regularly with your professors, as they may provide job suggestions or recommendations.
